HVAC FAQs

Upgrading from a 5 kW to a 10 kW heat kit increases the available heating capacity and can draw up to twice the power when operating at full output.

You must ask 1. Are my ducts the right size? Supply and return? 2. Are my copper line sets the correct size? AND will they be cleaning them? 3. Are they licensed, insured and are they pulling a permit?

The evaporator coil may ice up – do NOT try chipping or scraping to remove the ice. That will damage the coils. Call for proessional help. Call Poulin Cooling. We will thaw it out. We will find out why it happened. Evaporator coils can be wet or “sweating”. If ice forms the coil is below freezing and the humidity that it is removing from the air is turning to ice. This indicates something is wrong, usually an air flow problem like a dirty filter, or low refrigerant level, dirty coil, or system is running too long. Call us. Don’t try to remove the ice.

Our go-to for regular cleaning is Viper coil cleaner. It is degreasing and food grade. Good for condensors and evaporators. For coils that are a bit worse we use Nu-Calgon Evap Foam No Rinse. It has a bit of a smell. For very heavy build up we use Triple D by Diversitech. This one should be rinsed leaving no residue.
